Celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month 2024 at the Library

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and UC San Diego Library is celebrating by hosting events and sharing information on the topic throughout the month. There are many ways to get involved and take advantage of the Library’s offerings that can help you build and sustain positive mental health practices. As always, we’re here to help!

If you’re looking for something special and don’t see it in our collection, we can either borrow it for you from another lending library, or you can recommend a purchase

Amenities

WalkStations

Keep active while studying in the Library. One WalkStation in Geisel’s 1st Floor West features low-speed treadmills with adjustable-height work surfaces. Bookstands and wrist supports are also available for checkout at Geisel’s Service Hub.

Stretching

Foam rollers are available in Geisel’s East Commons (2nd Floor) and Brody Collaborative Space (1st Floor West), and WongAvery Library (Floor 1 South Stairs) for stretching and desk exercises. See this Tritons Care article to learn foam roller exercises to support physical health.

Puzzles and Coloring Pages

Shared jigsaw puzzles are available in Geisel’s West Commons (2nd Floor), Brody Collaborative Space (1st Floor West), and WongAvery Library (2nd Floor), and are rotated regularly. A shared chess board is positioned near the windows in Geisel’s East Commons.

Printed coloring pages, puzzles, and mazes are available in the Leisure Lounge in Geisel 1st Floor West (near the charging lockers). Coloring pages and a Color & Share board are located in Geisel 2 East (near the restrooms) and at WongAvery 2nd Floor. Borrow a Coloring Supply Kit from the Geisel and WongAvery Service Hubs.

Break Rooms

Calm Cave Meditation Space (Geisel Library, Room 621)

The Calm Cave Meditation Space offers a brief retreat from studying where students can relax with yoga or meditation, clear their mind and peruse a variety of mindfulness and wellness books. This space also provides yoga mats, foam rollers, floor cushions and comfortable chairs with a view.

Leisure Lounge Art/Game Room (Geisel Library, 1st Floor, West)

Drop in to play board or card games, color, do origami, or de-stress with printable puzzles. This space features colorful furniture that can be reconfigured to suit the game or creative activity you are doing.
